The American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging is urging its members to plan ahead for the next few months of the flu season by booking vaccine orders soon, and from multiple manufacturers.

Regular influenza strains, as well as the H1N1 virus, are likely to continue to spread for months, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. AAHSA is recommending that members split their vaccine purchases from at least two different sources. This could help providers avoid unforeseen delays in their order due to potential manufacturing complication, according to MedAssets’ Influenza Program. MedAssets is the purchasing partner of AAHSA.

Officials believe there will be a resurgence, or a third wave, of H1N1. They are urging everyone to receive the vaccine.
