Spokesmen for the parties involved with the sale of the largest nursing home chain in the country say they are ready to close the deal “immediately.”

“Once West Virginia approves, [our intention] would be to close the transaction immediately,” said Carlyle Group spokesman Chris Ullman. He said his company wants to move as quickly as possible.

“We’ve done everything necessary to approve this transaction in 31 of the 32 states in which we operate,” added Manor Care spokesman Rick Rump.

Carlyle agreed to buy the $6.3 billion nursing home operator in July. The deal has been slowed, however, due to the concerns of the Service Employees International Union. The SEIU, which represents some 1,000 of Manor Care’s 60,000 workers, is concerned about possible cuts in staffing and the potential for a reduced quality of care.
