While easy and relatively quick actions can reduce the severity of oral health issues developing over time, they are some of the most challenging activities to consistently attend to in many managed care settings.
Providers across a variety of senior care settings will learn the benefits of and best methods of providing oral care for individuals with dementia or related conditions. Poor oral hygiene has been linked to a variety of poor health outcomes. The hour-long session will begin at 2 p.m. EDT Thursday and feature the evidence-based training program "Mouth Care Without the Battle." Presenters will include geriatrician Philip Sloan, MD, MPH; gerontologist and researcher Sheryl Zimmerman, PhD; psychologist Ann Louise Butrick; and dental hygienist Patricia Poole, RDH, MS, LPN.
