The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will host another free conference call Wednesday for providers to learn more about the transition from the RUG-III payment system to RUG-IV. The new MDS 3.0 resident assessment tool and RUG-IV will become effective Oct. 1.

The start of therapy and end of therapy, other Medicare required assessments, and the SNF short stay policy that was not discussed during a similar call earlier this week, will be topics covered Wednesday. Free registration is necessary and will be available {on the CMS website.}, officials said.

Wednesday’s call will mark the third in a series that CMS officials are hosting for providers. Some have called the Oct. 1 switchover to the MDS and RUG systems one of the most significant changes for providers in decades.
