Only 50% of pharmacists and 21% of physicians feel familiar with the Medicare Part D prescription drug program, according to a new study.

Delta Marketing Dynamics, a healthcare marketing research firm based in East Syracuse, NY, conducted a survey in mid-December of 100 retail pharmacists and 102 primary care physicians throughout the United Sates.

Pharmacists received questions from more than 100 patients on Medicare Part D in the 30 days following the opening of the enrollment period last November, the study said. As part of the survey, respondents were asked to assess patients’ questions and their plan of action for implementing the program.
