Policy makers should look to six areas to reform the long-term care system, according to a new report from the Center for Gerontology and Health Care Research at Brown University.

The areas are: prioritizing the financing of long-term care; empowering individuals and families; promoting physical and organizational change; investing in the long-term care workforce; modernizing regulatory controls and incentives; and leveraging health information technology.
The report was written for the National Commission for Quality Long-Term Care, which is charged with recommending industry improvements.
