New Jersey’ state senate passed a bill that would allow consumers to more easily research nursing home and adult day care center owners.

Under the bill, the state Department of Health and Senior Services would create a Web-based database that would be searchable by the name of a facility or its owner. The database would include violations issued against a facility. Consumer advocates say the bill might be the only one of its kind in the country.

The state Assembly’s Health and Senior Services Committee is expected to vote on a companion bill.
