Most senior citizens want to age in place, a new study found.

A total of 89% of seniors want to grow old without leaving their home, according to the study, “Aging in Place in America,” commissioned by Clarity and The EAR Foundation. The study also said that a large majority (82%) of baby boomers fear their parents will be mistreated in a nursing home. More than 800 seniors 65 and older and baby boomers were polled for the study. The independent research company, Prince Market Research, a member of the Council of American Survey Research Organizations, conducted the research.

Some other study findings: Seniors’ biggest fears are loss of independence and entering a nursing home, and half of seniors are willing to use new technologies to foster independence, including having sensors installed in their homes to monitor their health.
