John Rother is executive vice president of policy and strategy at AARP.

The Senate Special Committee on Aging will host a discussion and briefing Thursday about the potential effects of healthcare reform on seniors.

The purpose of the meeting is to further debunk healthcare reform myths, and educate participants about seniors’ role in healthcare reform. Tricia Neuman, director of the Medicare Policy Project at the Kaiser Family Foundation, will moderate the discussion. Panelists will include John Rother, executive vice president of policy and strategy for AARP, and Ron Pollack, executive director of Families USA.

The meeting will be open to the public, as well as Washington staffers and members of the press. The event will begin at 2 p.m. EST in the Kennedy Caucus Room at the Russell Senate Office Building. Misinformation has dominated much of the healthcare reform debate. Circulating have been misperceptions that the government would create “death panels” and that healthcare for seniors would be rationed.
