» The Ensign Group announced several acquisitions in November, including two Idaho skilled nursing facilities, a continuing care retirement community in Kansas, and an assisted living facility in Texas. That brings the Mission Viejo, CA, company’s portfolio to about 240 facilities, 188 of which are SNFs. Officials from the country’s fifth-largest nursing home chain said they’re eyeing more in 2019. Ensign saw a 25.7% surge in SNF revenues in recent months.

» Synergy Health Centers will close Massachusetts nursing facilities in Sunderland and Waban. The Toms River, NJ, company has been saddled with more than $31 million in unpaid bills, and numerous fines, the Boston Globe reported. Eight of its 10 facilities are now in the hands of a court-appointed receiver and several are slated for sale, leaving the operator with control of a single remaining SNF.

» Omega Healthcare Investors was looking to close the book on its dealings with troubled nursing home chain Orianna Health System. The Maryland real estate investment trust transitioned 22 former Orianna facilities to new operators in the third quarter and sold another.
