More than 5,000 providers have stepped up to join a two-year voluntary campaign to improve the quality of care in the nation’s nursing homes, according to campaign organizers.

Facilities participating in the campaign, Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes, have committed to work on at least three of the campaign’s eight measurable clinical quality and organizational improvement goals to improve their quality of care. These goals include reducing high risk pressure ulcers and reducing the use of daily physical restraints.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services launched the National Nursing Home Quality Initiative in 2001. Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes was launched in September 2006 and builds on NHQI.
