Long-term care associations are calling on members to contribute to relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

The American Association of Homes and Services for the Aged issued an action plan, with the top exec asking members to pray, send money and help with relocation of residents in the Gulf Coast states.

Larry Minnix, CEO of AAHSA, says of the last point: “Unlike previous similar catastrophes, there may be an emerging, major need to place residents and employees in member facilities outside the affected areas on a temporary–or permanent basis.”

The American Health Care Association also plans to have an emergency relief fund and similar measures, but they were not yet announced at press time.

Those wishing to send money via AAHSA can do the following:

Make checks payable to AAHSA Gulf States Hurricane Relief Fund. To send tax-deductible gifts to AAHSA, use the association’s online donation form: http://eloop.goldlasso.com/redir.php?s=3638&u=373625&f=2&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.aahsa.org%2Fedocuments%2Fhurricane_relief.pdf
