Study questions supplements as hedge against chronic conditions

Older women who take multivitamins, folic acid and other dietary supplements to ward off chronic conditions actually face a higher risk of dying, according to a new study in the Archives of Internal Medicine. University of Minnesota researchers analyzed the dietary intake habits of 39,000 women over 19 years. Of the 15 supplements examined, only calcium was associated with lower risk.
