A new app could soon allow providers to check vital signs by using residents’ smartphones. The app measures heart rate, heart rhythm, respiration rate and blood oxygen saturation. Phone measurements are as accurate as those recorded by standard medical monitors now in clinical use. The app was developed by a team led by Ki Chon, professor and head of biomedical engineering at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
