The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists is celebrating “Older Americans Month,” which kicked off Tuesday, by offering an array of new tools.

The theme of this year’s month-long celebration is “Engage at Every Age,” encouraging individuals of all ages to improve their own well-being. The month is led by the Administration on Aging, which has a list of activities that your nursing home can take part in, in the next few weeks.

ASCP, meanwhile, just launched its new Senior Care Pharmacist Directory, hoping to make it easier for operators to identify pharmacists who might help seniors manage their medications and health, according to an announcement. The society also has developed a new series of handouts and videos, with the goal of better orienting the public to the variety of services senior care pharmacists can offer.

“With those tools, ASCP aims to help older adults become more empowered to make decisions regarding their healthcare, and to learn what pharmacists can bring to their healthcare team,” the society said in its announcement. “Being engaged in one’s health is one way that older adults can improve their overall wellbeing. In fact, there are numerous ways that older adults can be engaged in their lives — physically, mentally, and emotionally — and older adults are encouraged to explore those ways throughout the month.”
