LifeSpire of Virginia has started construction on the new 125,000-square-foot expansion of its Culpeper community. The Culpeper is two hours southwest of Washington, D.C.

SunTrust Bank has provided an $18 million loan, which will allow the community to replace the 1951 building. The new facility will have 133 new apartments, including 47 skilled nursing units, of which 16 will be reserved for short-term rehabilitation.

New amenities will include a courtyard, a chapel, on-site physical therapy and a spa.

“LifeSpire of Virginia is committed to providing warm and inviting communities for our residents, and we believe the new Culpeper community space will continue to allow us to deliver the best quality care for seniors in the state,” said Jonathan Cook, president and CEO of LifeSpire of Virginia.

LifeSpire of Virginia has three other continuing care retirement communities — The Chesapeake in Newport News, The Glebe in Daleville and Lakewood in Richmond.
