While government spending may be down in many areas, it continues to escalate in healthcare--particularly for nursing home and home health services. Federal nursing home outlays expanded by 4.8% in 2007, while the increase surpassed 11% for home health, according to a report from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Overall healthcare spending climbed to $2.2 trillion, or $7,421 per person, according to government actuaries.
