Getting a better grip on floor safety

It's no secret that residents tend to fall a lot. In fact, each nursing home typically experiences between 100 and 200 resident falls each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That's one reason why the recent release of a floor-safety standard looks so promising. Under the new American National Standards Institute standard, the slip-resistance of walkways can be measured and categorized into three ranges: high-, moderate- or low-traction. It's all but certain that floor surfaces in long-term care settings will become much safer as a result. That's certainly a step in the right direction.
