Coming soon: Needle-free injections

Residents could soon find that getting shots is a lot less painful. Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology recently developed a device that delivers a tiny, high-pressure jet of medicine through the skin -- without the use of a hypodermic needle. The device can be programmed to deliver a range of doses to various depths. Investigators say that possible benefits include fewer injuries from needle sticks, better compliance and relief for people who are afraid of needles, including those with diabetes.
