AlixaRx, a young pharmacy company, announced it is now servicing more than 100 post-acute care facilities.

In less than a year in existence, AlixaRx dispensed more than 6 million doses to over 20,000 patients from its on-site dispensing systems, company officials said.

“For too long, our industry has struggled with the medication delivery systems used in post-acute healthcare settings. While many smaller, regional pharmacies have embraced technology to improve patient care, the national pharmacies have been reluctant to change because of their large infrastructure investment to support the traditional punch-card dispensing model,” said AlixaRx Senior Vice President Brad Savage.

One facility, Golden LivingCenter-Indianapolis, notably realized a 15% reduction in antipsychotic drugs, a 32% reduction in high-risk medication, and a 10% cost savings. That accomplishment, in part, earned the facility the Gold Innovator of the Year Award from McKnight’s Technology Awards.
