Repurposing skilled nursing facilities as behavioral health or addiction service centers will remain a key business strategy for Sabra Health Care, the REIT’s CEO told investors.
“Few operators have been active in that regard, and there aren’t very many other uses for skilled nursing facilities,” Rick Matros said in a second quarter investment call. “This is a perfect avenue to pursue in those markets.”
While Sabra will transform no-longer useful SNFs, Matros acknowledged limited opportunities in the “fragmented” behavioral space.
