Diversicare Healthcare Services and its 62 skilled nursing facilities have outsourced therapy services to Reliant Rehabilitation.

“A partnership with Reliant will give our patients and residents access to cutting-edge therapy while giving our therapy team members access to best in class training, clinical management and career opportunities,” Diversicare President and CEO Jay McKnight said in a press release. “We expect continued improvement in our quality of care along with efficiency gains in our centers.”

During an earnings call with investors and members of the media in November, McKnight acknowledged the potential for “significant” savings. Many providers have grappled with how best to provide therapy under the Patient Driven Payment Model, which largely disconnects reimbursement from therapy hours.

Diversicare, which is based in Brentwood, TN, previously provided physical, occupational and speech therapy services through its Diversicare Therapy Services subsidiary. Now, Reliant Rehabilitation will absorb Diversicare therapy staff, who will have access to Reliant’s clinical pathways, therapy education and career growth opportunities.

Diversicare offers post-acute care services at 62 skilled nursing centers with more than 7,000 beds, primarily in the Southeast, Midwest and Southwest regions.

Reliant already had more than 9,000 therapists working nationally in nearly 900 nursing homes.

“Reliant’s therapy model and patient-care mission align perfectly with Diversicare’s passion for providing best- in-class quality and positive experiences for every patient and resident they serve across their comprehensive portfolio of centers,” said Reliant Rehabilitation CEO Chris Bird. “This partnership aligns the respective expertise and core strengths of both providers to better address the many demands and expectations of patients/residents, family members, referral sources and payers in what is shaping up to be the post-pandemic new normal.”
