The demand for a Patient-Driven Payment Model solution has resulted in 150% growth in sales since 2018 for Real Time Medical Systems, the Maryland-based company said in July.

Skilled nursing facilities are trying to maneuver through 20,000-plus categories and more than 140 MDS items used to calculate reimbursements, according to Jim Shearon, vice president of clinical solutions at Real Time. The company’s interventional analytics software platform can especially help better manage  Initial Assessment and Interim Payment Assessments under PDPM.

“Because the accuracy of the Initial Assessment will become imperative for the facility to ensure they are receiving accurate payment for care under PDPM, Real Time can scour the entire health record for all the pertinent areas that drive reimbursements for PDPM and delivers the results to the interdisciplinary team for accurate coding on the MDS,” Shearon told McKnight’s. “This ensures nothing is missed from the multiple completed assessments, evaluations, consults, narrative notes, therapy documentation, and the like. in the EHR.”

As residents’ care changes, Real Time can alert clinical leadership if an IPA should be further analysed, he said.

Many SNFs did not have a solution in place to easily prepare for PDPM, he said. The company’s next step is to expand its recent application, ProACT HS, which is designed for hospitals, accountable care organizations and payers that are working with long-term care facilities to reduce readmissions.

Since launching ProAct HS, clients have seen a 50% reduction in readmissions, he added.

Shearon said upgrades are based on client feedback. “We place a tremendous amount of focus on hearing directly from our clients on how we can continually improve our solution for them,” he said.
