Pride. We’re looking for some providers with pride.
That sums it up best, and makes it easy to identify with the subject of this column. That’s because if you don’t have pride in what you’re doing, well, you’re in the wrong line of work, friend.
Long-term care in any era requires a strong constitution. You need a curious mix of caring heart, along with a hard outer shell.
But you keep going only with pride also at your side. Not the haughty kind that “goeth before a fall.” The kind that inspires you to hold your head high each time you enter or exit your workplace.
It tells you that you’re not only working in a righteous field, but you’re doing a good job at it.
We want to recognize — indeed, celebrate — your good work both in print and online, just as we have in honoring hundreds of your peers in past years.

We know that providers have been meeting current historic challenges with great creativity, and sometimes profound simplicity. We also know some have been reluctant about pursuing recognition during the pandemic. I look at it this way: NOT taking a breath to share what you do best would be the real crime.
Hopefully, healthy pride will compel you to tell us about your favorite programs. Everybody should have at least one innovation worth entering. My personal advice is this: Find a particular resident care or administrative program you like and then tell us what’s behind it. It’s as simple as that.
Virtually every aspect of long-term care has some kind of technology behind it, either simple or complex. Tell us a good story about yours and you just might find yourself (and your team) on the smiling side of a Gold, Silver or Bronze award.
There will be six of each, so you have a good chance at taking home some hardware, and bursting with pride for all the right reasons.
