MONTANA – The Montana Mediation Association (MtMA)has received a Civil Monetary Penalty Reinvestment Grant to delay and possibly prevent resident discharges from Montana nursing homes.

The $5,000 grant started Aug. 1, and allows certified eldercare mediators to help resolve resident discharge problems. Residents are typically given a 30-day notice and can appeal it through the Office of Fair Hearing. However, appealing can exceed the given period. 

With the grant, eldercare mediation will be an option outside regulatory agencies and litigation.
