Two Iowa-based companies are joining to build a new senior housing organization and new facilities with long-term care beds in the Midwest.

WellSpire, a cooperative venture between WesleyLife and Genesis Health System, planned to break ground on The Summit of Bettendorf in Iowa this summer. The community will feature 20 long-term care beds, 20 short-term rehab units, 16 assisted living and memory support units and about 100 apartments.

The Bettendorf, IA, area has experienced rapid growth that is expected to continue for several years, WellSpire said in a press release. The company also identified demand for new programming and physical upgrades, expansions or new projects at Genesis’ Illini Restorative Care and Crosstown Square independent living apartments in Silvis, IL, and the West Wing Place intermediate bed long-term care nursing unit in DeWitt, IA.

Both campuses will fall under the WellSpire brand, which said it will approach redevelopment in the region “through the lens of transforming the aging experience.” The endeavors follow an announcement early this year that WesleyLife and Genesis Health would join forces in a new entity to develop senior living communities to serve eastern Iowa and western Illinois.

“Through our partnership with Genesis Health, we’re focused on a common mission to pave the way for people 55 and older to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives that focus on purpose and well-being,” said WesleyLife CEO Rob Kretzinger.
