Missouri — A suburban Kansas City nursing home is being accused of paying a female nurse less than two male nurses who performed the same jobs.

The federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit against the Edgewood Manor Care Center for Rehab and Healthcare in Raytown, MO, in September.

The federal agency alleges that a female licensed practical nurse was paid $21 per hour by the facility, while two male LPNs performing the same job were paid $25 per hour.

The EEOC is arguing the alleged conduct violates the Equal Pay Act of 1963, which prohibits employers from paying women and men differently for the same jobs unless the employer relies on a factor other than sex for the pay differential.
