The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services have issued corrected value-based purchasing (VBP) reports for skilled nursing facilities following a calculation mistake.

The agency said the error was caused by a “small number of stays that were either erroneously included or excluded from the calculations,” said Nicole Fallon, LeadingAge’s lead on health policy and integrated services.

Skilled nursing operators were notified of the error, which could impact their Medicare payments. The SNF value-based purchasing program awards facilities with incentive payments based on the quality of care provided to Medicare beneficiaries. Fallon said she was hopeful  that the error’s impact would be minimal.

The corrected reports were issued in late August. No additional action needed to be taken by SNFs once the reports were available.
