OKLAHOMA — The state recently implemented three laws addressing nursing home reform.

S.B. 142 requires informed consent from nursing home patients and their families in order for operators to administer antipsychotic drugs.

Under S.B. 142, residents have to be examined by the prescribing clinician and diagnosed with a psychiatric condition before receiving an antipsychotic drug.

S.B. 280 increases staff and ties payment to providing quality care. It will require facilities to maintain a 15:1 resident to staff ratio and directs the Oklahoma Health Care Authority to modify its incentive reimbursement rate plan for nursing facilities.

S.B. 888 allows more counseling designed to help seniors make an informed choice about long-term care.
