A Columbus man was sentenced this week to six years in prison for supplying fentanyl to a nursing home resident who later overdosed.

Eric Banks, 25, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and one count of aggravated drug trafficking related to the death of 56-year-old Dale Rogers.

Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Julie M. Lynch dismissed charges of corrupting another with drugs and a second count of aggravated drug trafficking as part of a plea agreement, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Investigators said Banks went to the Manor at Whitehall, 4805 Langley Ave., and sold fentanyl to Rogers on Feb. 10.

Manor staff found Rogers unresponsive, started resuscitation efforts and called 911. Medics administered the overdose-reversal drug Narcan, but it did not work and Rogers was pronounced dead at a hospital.

In court, prosecutors said Rogers texted Banks an order for “Chinese food,” which is slang for heroin, fentanyl or a mixture.

Toxicology tests and laboratory work on drugs that investigators found on Banks the day of his death all tested positive as fentanyl, the newspaper reported.
