American International College announced the receipt of a one-time $347,000 Nursing Workforce Diversity Grant from the Health Services and Resources Administration in support of its Nursing Education Achievement Program.

AIC, located in Springfield, MA, is a private master’s level institution committed to cultural diversity. HRSA is a federal agency working on improving healthcare access for those who are uninsured, isolated or medically vulnerable. In partnership with Baystate Medical Center, the Western Massachusetts chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, and the Western Massachusetts Black Nurses Association, NEAP will provide professional nurses to mentor participating students. This will involve implementing multiple evidence-based supports for economically and educationally disadvantaged students to pass their courses, graduate and move into the workforce.

“It is an honor for American International College and the Division of Nursing to be awarded this grant which recognizes AIC’s dedication and success in diversifying our community’s nursing workforce,” says Dean of Health Sciences Cesarina Thompson, Ph.D., RN, ANEF.
