Two nurses were indicted Thursday morning after allegedly ignoring a bleeding patient for more than 10 minutes after he fell and suffered a head wound.

Funmilola Taiwo and Esohe Agbonkpolor were working at Peninsula Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Far Rockaway, NY, when the 51-year-old patient fell and hit his head, authorities said.

Surveillance footage of the October 2014 incident shows the patient falling directly in front of Agbonkpolor. She allegedly walked away, leaving the mentally-ill man on the ground as he bled.

Prosecutors said both nurses actively ignored the resident for more than 12 minutes as he attempted to crawl for help and was later found by another aide who dragged him back to his room.

The aide who dragged the resident pled guilty to neglect charges at an earlier court appearance and will be sentenced at a later date.

Prosecutors said the patient crawled out of his room 25 minutes later as his head wound continued to bleed. According to authorities, an ambulance arrived at the facility 20 minutes later.

Both nurses face up to four years in prison on charges of endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person. Taiwo was also indicted on charges of falsifying business records. They are scheduled to return to court Sept. 8.

A McKnight’s call to the facility seeking comment was not returned by press time.
