The National Association of Health Care Assistants is asking fellow long-term care professionals to observe a moment of silence on Memorial Day to recognize “sisters in service who were killed so tragically” May 12 when a gunman wreaked havoc on their Ohio nursing home.

Nurse Marlina Medrano and nurse aide Cindy Krantz were shot to death inside the Pine Kirk Care Center, in Kirkersville, OH, after the town’s police chief was shot outside the facility.

It is fully appropriate to “honor their service and their sacrifice to our nation’s frail, elderly and disabled,” said NAHCA top exec Lori Porter. “They will be remembered as heroes, as they always should be.”
