The National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel is leading efforts to observe a “worldwide” pressure ulcer prevention day on Thursday. The objective is to increase awareness for pressure ulcer prevention and also educate caregivers and the public on the topic.

Pressure ulcers present some of the most challenging, and costly, caregiving issues long-term care operators and their residents face. Pressure ulcer care in the U.S. alone is estimated to approach $11 billion annually, with a cost of between $500 and $70,000 per individual ulcer, according to the NPUAP.

NPUAP’s extensive media materials package, which is appropriate for all healthcare settings and organizations, can be downloaded here. Posters, logos, fact sheets, sample press releases and more reside at that site.

A special free webinar presented in observance of the day has already reached capacity, according to organizers, who are planning to make it available in archived form.
