This has been a tough week to get much notice in the news if something didn’t deal in direct relation to the coronavirus pandemic. But Brain Awareness Week brings important mental and brain health issues, including stroke and much more, to the forefront this, and perhaps even more importantly, in the challenging weeks ahead.

The 25th annual observance of the global campaign coordinated by the Dana Foundation has offered a variety of resources and suggestions for healthcare professionals. In addition, the Get Ahead of Stroke campaign offers information, policy updates and a variety of helpful resources.

The campaign was founded in 2016 by the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery (SNIS) and is a national public education and advocacy campaign designed to improve systems of care for stroke patients. Every 40 seconds someone has a stroke in the U.S. and every four minutes somebody dies from one. Yet less than 15% of severe stroke patients get the care they need, brain health experts point out.

This week, next week and every week is a good time to get more in tune with how to help potential and actual stroke victims.
