Demand for workers will continue to climb

The Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education, the instructional arm of the Gerontological Society of America, has introduced new resources for Careers in Aging Week, which kicks off Sunday. More will be forthcoming, the organization said.

Major long-term care provider associations LeadingAge, the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living and Argentum are promoting the event for the first time, the groups announced in a statement this week.

GSA directs interested parties to visit careersinaging.com to view the available resources and learn more about how to participate.

A video preview of the 2019 social media awareness campaign outlines how various organizations will share their plans for raising awareness of careers in aging.

“Workforce is the single most challenging issue facing providers today. We’re thrilled to be a part of this important effort,” said LeadingAge President and CEO Katie Smith Sloan.

Also, slated to be released next week during Careers in Aging Week is “The Real Faces of Careers in Aging” — vignettes of individual interviews taken with a range of professionals in the field of aging.

“AHCA/NCAL is proud to participate in Careers in Aging Week and encourage our members to showcase the incredible opportunities available in long term and post-acute care,” said AHCA/NCAL President and CEO Mark Parkinson.

“This is a critically important time for us to work together to help shape the future of senior living,” said Argentum President and CEO James Balda. “Sharing the limitless possibilities of what a career in aging can offer will help to build a caring, compassionate, and dedicated workforce.”
