The Congressional Long-Term Care Commission is on an “extraordinarily short time frame” that merits an extension, a member told McKnight’s in June.

The 15 panelists have been told their report deadline will not be moved beyond late September, according to Judith Stein, executive director of the Center for Medicare Advocacy.

A full commission was finalized only recently, following the replacement of member Bruce Greenstein. The former head of Louisiana’s Department of Health and Hospitals, he is being investigated for possible perjury.

The tight schedules might limit results to principles rather than solutions, she said.
