Residents at a Pennsylvania-based retirement community are saying “thank you” to the high school employees who work at the facility by giving them thousands of dollars in scholarship funding.
“Each of these employees has shown their dedication to enhancing the lives of seniors,” said Lisa Haino, director of marketing communications and special events at Wesley Enhanced Living Upper Moreland, in Hatboro, PA.
“We hope that these scholarships serve as a reminder to them that the residents and staff are supporting them from afar as they pursue their dreams,” she added.
Wesley Enhanced Living in mid-August announced that it will be awarding 11 dining employees with $1,000 scholarships to put toward their college education.
Wesley has more than 1,200 residents and 1,100 employees, and provides skilled nursing, independent living, personal care services, memory care and rehabilitation.

The ServeWEL scholarship program, which was started in 2006, is a yearly resident-led effort to support its student employees. Residents hold fundraising projects and events each year to collect donations from other residents, their families and staff members for the program.
This year, they raised more than $11,000 to support the annual effort. To date, the program has awarded more than $100,000 in scholarship funding.
“The ServeWEL scholarship program shows our gratitude and appreciation for these hard-working and outstanding high school juniors and seniors who support our residents and other staff members,” Haino said.
“Our employees make such a positive and lasting impact on the beloved residents. Our WEL communities wouldn’t be the same without these young, dedicated team members.”
