A New York nursing home worker will get her rent or mortgage paid for the next six months, at no limit, after being crowned Professional of the Year by her operator in honor of National Nursing Home Week.

New Jersey-based operator CareRite Centers earlier this month announced Zeina Khaled, a speech language pathologist at the Phoenix Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Brooklyn, NY, as winner of this year’s title.

Khaled, who’s worked with CareRite since 2017, was described as a “phenomenal team member” who feels like her job isn’t work. She said she doesn’t do her job to be thanked or recognized, but to help her patients. She added she’s grateful for the recognition and said the win is the biggest honor she could ever achieve.

“Giving my residents their voice and finding new ways for them to communicate with their loved ones is a reward enough for me,” Khaled said.

Each year during National Nursing Home Week, the operator recognizes one team member who signifies dedication, commitment and overall leadership. Finalists for the award are nominated by their peers, supervisors and residents and chosen by a panel of judges.

Prizes in the past have ranged from all-inclusive vacations, $10,000 toward any bill and luxury cars.

“Zeina is so deserving of this title, and works so hard in our community each and every day. She makes a difference in the lives of so many,” said Ephie Carni and Tina DiLorenzo, Phoenix Rehabilitation administrative team members.
