A Louisiana nursing home has become internet famous after one passerby captured its residents making a midday pitstop for some frosty adult beverages.

The group of elders hails from the Pelican Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation, in Maurice, LA. Facebook user Brandon Sinegal snapped the short video on March 12, which has since been shared thousands of times and garnered nearly 65,000 views.

Such outings are typical at the nursing home, says Michele Veillon, program and design director. Past field trips included the tasting room at a local brewery, several visits to the Maurice City Bar and a deep-sea fishing excursion. Their parent company, Elder Outreach, also beat a world record last year by playing bingo 24 hours straight.

Veillon she is “more than a bit shocked and surprised” by all the attention the daiquiri trip received, including several reports by local TV stations.

“I suppose it highlights an even bigger issue of the general public not recognizing that, because you have some age on you and can’t move like you used to, it doesn’t mean that you still don’t want the same things in life that you always wanted,” she says. “That’s actually our mission: to dispel all of the myths about aging.”

Pelican Pointe residents agree with those sentiments and appreciate all of the trips to help avoid feeling as if they are “boxed in.”

“You’re never too old as long as you can walk,” Olita Frederick told KATC.
