In the beginning, there was – and let me emphasize up front still is – the printed page. Ever since Gutenberg invented the first printing press hundreds of years ago, things have been humming along on the communications front.
But the world has so much more to offer nowadays. Yes, even in our humble long-term care corner of the world.
Take, for example, the McKnight’s story. Once thought of as a newsletter, McKnight’s Long-Term Care News started making its name as the premier monthly magazine in the LTC management arena more than 28 years go.
Then, came the McKnight’s Web page. Next began the Daily Update and our other e-mailed newsletters.
Then, nearly three years ago, we brought the industry its first virtual trade show, an online expo and set of educational webcasts you could enjoy from the comfort of your own office.
And now we enter a new era, one that includes live-action video news clips on our home page—www.mcknights.com.
The first batch was posted from the annual meeting of the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industry last month. Expect more from other long-term care gatherings.
Why is this such a big deal? Because if you’ve never met some of the newsmakers or experts we write about, this is your chance to get an up-close, 3-D look at—and listen to—them.
Up to 90% of all communication comes through body language, not words. So think of the benefit of hearing and seeing someone’s personal delivery.
If you’ve never met the highly quotable NIC President Robert Kramer in person, for example, or had a few quiet moments with billion-dollar dealmaker Arnie Whitman, this is your chance.
And when the time comes, you’ll realize how much his slight drawl colors the wise, folksy man who is Larry Minnix, president and CEO of the American Association of Homes & Services for the Aging.
And when it comes to Minnix’s counterpart at the American Health Care Association, the taller-than-expected Bruce Yarwood will likely charm you with his polished, gregarious presence.
Concise, to-the-point interviews will be the hallmark of our news-video archive.
For nearly three decades, McKnight’s has worked hard to bring you the people who so mightily influence your livelihood—up close and personal.
