A study by A Perfect Cause, a California-based nonprofit that advocates for the rights of nursing home residents, found that 380 registered sex offenders are living in 289 facilities in 37 states.

Researchers compared the addresses of sex offenders registered with law-enforcement agencies in 37 states to the addresses of nursing homes.

States with the highest number of sex offenders in nursing homes are Texas (70), Illinois (57), Ohio (39), Missouri (35), and Florida (30).

The study prompted a coalition of advocacy groups on Monday to call for a ban on registered sex offenders in nursing homes in Oklahoma, according to a letter to Gov. Brad Henry.
