Democrats in the House Thursday disclosed a new $825 billion stimulus package that contains $90 billion in additional Medicaid funding, according to recent news reports.

Of the $90 billion, $3 billion would be designated for Medicaid regulatory initiatives, while the remaining $87 billion would be earmarked to states for a temporary increase in the Federal Medical Assistance Percentage. An additional $20 billion from the stimulus package would be set aside to pay higher reimbursements to hospitals and physicians who adopt electronic health record technology. Civil liberties and privacy advocate groups have asked that privacy measures be included in any EHR legislation, according to Congress Daily.

Smaller House committees will begin marking up the legislation next week, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has said she hopes the package will be completed by mid-February, according to The Washington Post. The Senate Finance Committee hopes to begin markups on the stimulus package next Thursday.
