Healthcare information technology legislation has caught on rapidly at the state level, a new report finds.

Three dozen healthcare IT bills have been signed into law in 24 states over the last 20 months, according to a report from e-Health Initiative. The group is a Washington-based nonprofit entity funded by healthcare providers, payers, and technology vendors and other stakeholders.

Also, 10 states have issued executive orders designed to promote health IT, and 14 states passed bills calling for the creation of a commission, committee or other body to provide leadership or recommendations on HIT in 2005 and 2006, the report said.
