A sleeping 87-year-old nursing home resident was mistakenly transported to the local morgue recently, according to reports out of Canada.

The resident was simply the unwitting victim of a mix-up caused by an employee’s failure to follow procedures – which include a check of paperwork against the resident’s identification — according to officials at the Surrey, British Columbia, nursing facility. The mistake was realized shortly after the transfer when a morgue employee discovered the woman was alive.

The woman slept peacefully throughout the episode and was recovering without incident, according to a news report. The employee responsible for the mix-up was dismissed, pending an investigation, nursing home officials said.
