Technology upgrades across ABHOW’s Rosewood Senior Living campus in Bakersfield, CA, helped make maintenance and transportation more efficient, plus boosted resident use of Internet applications.
Rosewood earned the Gold Award in the Innovator category of McKnight’s Excellence in Technology Awards for integrating a variety of innovative technology solutions across its campus.
Rosewood gave staff members iPads loaded with TheWorxHub Operation Software, which let staff plan their days remotely and streamlined maintenance and transportation requests. Rosewood also installed a Wi-Fi network to provide Internet access in all of their campus’ four buildings.
“Free Wi-Fi has prompted loved ones to purchase tablets for their moms, dads, and grandparents, keeping families more connected through email, Skype and Facebook,” Rosewood administrators say.
The campus uses the Sara Nurse Call system, as well as Relative Peace of Mind, which projects photos, appointment reminders and messages from family onto the walls of rooms in Rosewood’s memory care program.
The facility also installed two CyberCycle fitness bikes, which allow residents to play a video game while they pedal. They shared in healthy competition with other residents, staff and other senior communities across the country through an Internet-enabled dashboard, which shows scores of residents in senior communities similar to a video game.
Rosewood administrators say the technology has shown “extraordinary” results across campus.
“I have lived here for eight years and this year was a magical year for technology,” says resident and former Rosewood Resident Council President, John Friauf.
The Silver Innovator honors went to Arbors of Hop Brook in Manchester, CT, for integrating the Novaerus airborne pathogen control system with the facility’s existing infection control program. Six months after installing the Novaerus equipment, the average length of stay was reduced by 5.4%. Average readmission rates decreased 7.13%.
Taking home the Bronze Award for innovation is the Dr. Susan Smith McKinney Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Brooklyn, NY, for its synergistic use of patient care systems to improve admissions, transfers, resident care and the bottom line.
Earning Certificates of Merit for their innovation efforts are Hebrew Home at Riverdale in Bronx, NY; Park Ridge Care Center in Shoreline, WA; Franciscan Village in Lemont, IL; and Cedarvale Terrace Long Term Care Home in York, Ontario.
Winners were announced in the Transitions category Monday, Dignity on Tuesday and High Tech/High Touch on Wednesday. The awards program is sponsored by The Worx Hub by Dude Solutions.
