Cheryl Phillips, M.D., of LeadingAge

LeadingAge gave the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services a long list of concerns with recently proposed regulator’s reforms, a lead lobbyist said in an August letter.

“Volume really matters,” wrote Cheryl Phillips, M.D., LeadingAge Senior Vice President for Public Policy and Advocacy, encouraging operators to comment.

CMS’s proposal was unveiled in July. It included calls for quality assurance improvement, extensive infection control, compliance and ethics mandates, plus new staffing rules.

LeadingAge supports the intent, but “many of these requirements are vaguely defined and subject to surveyor interpretation or assume new staff competencies,” Phillips wrote.
