SOC Telemed (SOC), a leading psychiatric telemedicine provider, has acquired behavioral health-focused JSA Health. The combined new company will provide round-the-clock access to telePsychiatry care across multiple settings, including emergency departments, community and rural health clinics and educational institutions.

SOC is already the largest teleNeurology provider in the nation and the acquisition furthers its reach as the nation’s largest acute telePsychiatry provider. Company officials noted the shortage of psychiatrists in the U.S., especially in rural areas where access to timely, quality care is limited.

JSA Health brings more than 450 hospitals and health systems into the fold.

“JSA achieved a strong foothold in the telePsychiatry industry, but as a single specialty practice the company sought scalability that SOC Telemed supports with its proven platform and continued investments in innovation,” SOC Telemed CEO Hammad Shah said in a press release. “This acquisition enables growth for JSA Health – allowing the combined entity broader reach across the nation in areas experiencing detrimental shortages of psychiatrists.”

JSA Health’s founder and chief executive officer, Avrim Fishkind, M.D., has joined SOC as general manager of behavioral health services.
