Smartphone service to track seniors at home debuts

SafeinHome, a smartphone-enabled service that uses sensors in a senior’s home to send information to a family member’s device, has entered the market.

The company, based in Walnut Creek, CA, allows multiple family members to see real-time alerts for daily routines. It can answer questions such as, “Is the door left open?” the company said, or whether a family member has returned for the evening. SafeinHome sensors are placed in the parent’s living area, and connect to a CommHub that sends information to the family member’s smartphone.

SafeinHome Activity Monitoring is $99 a month, and is for independent older adults, the company says. It requires no senior involvement, making it different than an emergency call button, the company said.
