Genetic testing company Pro-GeneX has pivoted its services to build on a standing relationship with PharMerica and long-term care clients who need more access to testing during COVID-19 outbreaks.

While Pro-GeneX previously helped provide risk management using pharmacogenetics as a tool to reduce the use of some high-risk medications and related side effects, a new lab has been put to use testing for COVID-19. The company can run 1,000 tests daily and provide results within 24 hours. Pro-GeneX Laboratories is affiliated with Brenau University and the Ivester College & Health Services in Gainesville, GA.

“Currently, our focus has been on running COVID and RPP tests for one of PharMerica’s corporate groups, Continuing Healthcare Solutions who has 31 SNF and ALF centers throughout Ohio,” Clinical Operations Manager Pennye Westbrook told McKnight’s. “We are not limited to Georgia only, obviously, and would like to be available for whomever needs our services.”

Starting by mid-June, Pro-GeneZ also expects to offer antibody testing through its partner lab, Resolve Molecular Diagnostics, based in Tennessee.
